Instead of purchasing parallel-job capacity in advance, you pay only for the pipeline execution time you use, based on the selected agent SKU.<\/p>\n<p>This release includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>General availability of GitHub-hosted agents and pay-as-you-go pricing<\/li>\n<li>General availability of macOS agent SKUs<\/li>\n<li>Public preview of Linux and Windows agent SKUs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Choose the right compute for each pipeline<\/h2>\n<p>The <strong>GitHub-hosted Agents<\/strong> pool complements the existing Microsoft-hosted <strong>Azure Pipelines<\/strong> pool. It runs on the same infrastructure as GitHub Actions and provides additional hardware configurations, including larger machines with more CPU, memory, and storage.<\/p>\n<p>Each job runs on a fresh, isolated virtual machine. For current image labels and the software installed on each image, see the <a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/azure\/devops\/pipelines\/agents\/github-hosted\">GitHub-hosted agents documentation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p><strong>Important<\/strong> The <code>ubuntu-26.04-8-core<\/code>, <code>ubuntu-26.04-16-core<\/code>, <code>windows-2025-8-core<\/code>, and <code>windows-2025-16-core<\/code> images are still rolling out and aren\u2019t available to every Azure DevOps organization yet. They will become available to more organizations over the next few weeks. The Ubuntu 24.04 and Windows Server 2025 with Visual Studio 2026 images are available to all organizations that have GitHub-hosted agents enabled.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>GitHub-hosted agents run in the same regions as Microsoft-hosted agents.<\/p>\n<h2>Pay only for the minutes you use<\/h2>\n<p>GitHub-hosted agents use pay-as-you-go billing. You\u2019re charged per minute of pipeline execution time, with the per-minute rate determined by the agent SKU.<\/p>\n<p>This model is separate from the parallel-job billing used by Microsoft-hosted agents in the <strong>Azure Pipelines<\/strong> pool:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You don\u2019t need to purchase parallel-job capacity for jobs that run in the <strong>GitHub-hosted Agents<\/strong> pool<\/li>\n<li>GitHub-hosted agent jobs don\u2019t consume your existing parallel jobs<\/li>\n<li>There is no free tier or allocation of free minutes for GitHub-hosted agents<\/li>\n<li>Existing pipelines continue to use their current pool unless you explicitly update them<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>For current rates, see <a href=\"https:\/\/azure.microsoft.com\/pricing\/details\/devops\/azure-devops-services\/\">Azure DevOps pricing<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Enable GitHub-hosted agents<\/h2>\n<p>To get started, you need permission to configure your organization\u2019s billing settings.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>In your Azure DevOps organization, go to <strong>Organization settings<\/strong> &gt; <strong>Billing<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Set <strong>Enable GitHub-hosted agents<\/strong> to <strong>On<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Select <strong>Save<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><img data-opt-id=1760798468  fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/azure\/devops\/pipelines\/agents\/media\/github-hosted\/enable-billing.png\" alt=\"Azure DevOps billing settings with GitHub-hosted agents enabled\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Azure DevOps provisions a new <strong>GitHub-hosted Agents<\/strong> pool for your organization. Provisioning can take up to 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p>Enabling the pool doesn\u2019t change existing pipelines or start any jobs. The analytics view shows consumed minutes and lets you filter by agent SKU, project, and pipeline.<\/p>\n<p>Pay-as-you-go usage is also available in Azure Cost Management. You can filter costs by Azure DevOps organization and project, and use Azure Cost Management budgets and alerts to help track spending as more teams adopt the new agents.<\/p>\n<h2>Get started<\/h2>\n<p>GitHub-hosted agents make it easier to match pipeline compute to your workload.
