After that date, Microsoft will no longer provide servicing updates, security fixes, or technical support for these versions. We recommend upgrading to <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/announcing-dotnet-10\/\">.NET 10<\/a>, which is an LTS release supported through November 2028. By upgrading, you will continue receiving security updates and servicing fixes to keep your applications protected.<\/p>\n<h2>Support Policy<\/h2>\n<p>.NET 8 is a <a href=\"https:\/\/dotnet.microsoft.com\/platform\/support\/policy\/dotnet-core#release-types\">Long Term Support (LTS)<\/a> release, supported for 36 months from its initial release in November 2023. That support window closes on <strong>November 10, 2026<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>.NET 9 is a <a href=\"https:\/\/dotnet.microsoft.com\/platform\/support\/policy\/dotnet-core#release-types\">Standard Term Support (STS)<\/a> release. As we <a href=\"https:\/\/devblogs.microsoft.com\/dotnet\/dotnet-sts-releases-supported-for-24-months\/\">announced<\/a>, STS releases now get 24 months of support instead of 18. Existing installations won\u2019t be affected.<\/p>\n<p>You will need to retarget to .NET 10 (or later) to stay supported. You can use the \u201cremove out of support components\u201d option in Visual Studio to clean up .NET 8 and .NET 9 from existing installations.<\/p>\n<h2>Upgrading to .NET 10<\/h2>\n<p>You can upgrade your app to .NET 10 by changing the value of the <code>TargetFramework<\/code> property in your<br \/>\nproject file to <code>net10.0<\/code>.
