However, as application environments continue to become more complex, it’s clear that existing monitoring tools are no longer enough. DevOps teams need to be able to determine the dependencies that exist between components and services to improve overall reliability. Otherwise, it’s only a matter of time before one or more preventable issues adversely impact application performance or, worse yet, actual downtime.

Fortunately, there is now no shortage of observability platform options, most of which have already added AI agents that make it simpler than ever to discover the root cause of an issue. Eventually, the output from those AI agents will be shared with AI coding tools and DevOps platforms that will have their own to enable DevOps teams to remediate any issue significantly faster.

The goal, of course, is to reduce the overall level of stress and burnout that many DevOps engineers currently experience. There is no doubt that AI should enable DevOps teams to manage more complex application environments at scale but before that goal can be achieved there needs to be a reliable platform in place that enables AI agents to generate the most accurate recommendations possible. Otherwise, an AI agent is only making a best guess based on the limited amount of data they might be able to access.

Regardless of approach, the one thing that is certain is that DevOps teams will need to assess the need for many of their existing legacy monitoring tools. Much of the functionality they provide will increasingly be obviated by platforms that, in addition to diagnosing the root cause of an issue, are also able to continually monitor an application environment. In most cases, the ability to eliminate the need for legacy monitoring tools should help offset the cost of acquiring an observability platform.

Ultimately, each software engineering team will need to determine what level of observability might be needed. The one thing that is certain is that as DevOps teams enter the AI era, many of the tools and platforms they have relied on in the past to manage DevOps workflows are, like it or not, soon likely to be replaced.

A survey of 628 enterprise IT leaders conducted by the Futurum Group finds well over a third (36%) plan on […]

[5

post-3803","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-devops
["GET
